Edward P. Jones appeared in The New Yorker early August 06' with his fiction, "Bad Neighbors." And, most recently anthologized in one of my favorite collections of contemporary short stories, The O. Henry Prize Stories: The Best Stories of the Year. "Bad Neighbors," explores class conflict among black Americans. My favorite excerpt:
"'Which one was it?' He was wearing an undershirt, and it hung on him in a way that did not threaten as those shirts often did on other men...It was a small moment in the kitchen, but Sharo was to think of those arms years later as she stood naked and looked down at the bare arms of her husband while the red light of an expensive German clock shone down on him."
