Friday

I was woken up to the news of a Adenhart's death yesterday. I 22 year old kid just starting his career as an Angels big-league pitcher was killed in a drunk driving accident on his way home from a game. Apparently the drunkard ran a red light and hit Adenhart's car head on. He shortly thereafter, fled the scene. I don't know this kid. I've never watched an Angels game in my life. But it reminded me of home. My childhood home. I was 10. I came home from riding bikes with neighborhood kids. My parents summoned me into their bedroom to tell me my best friend, Stephanie and her family had been killed in a drunk driving accident the day before. Same situation as the pitcher. Drunkard runs a red light and smashes into her family's car, killing not only Stephanie but her parents and brother and grandma. The guy walked away without a scratch. How do you tell kids something like that? So-in-so is going away. And by the way, don't expect them to come back. Yesterday, the sunrise merged with the sunset. Not in any definitive quality. Just a merging.
